What It Does and How IP Blacklist works?

Many ISPs, mail servers, and hosting platforms use DNSBLs to block traffic from IPs known for spamming or malicious activity. These blacklists help filter out harmful connections — but sometimes, even clean users end up flagged.

An IP address can end up in a DNSBL (Domain Name System Blacklist) for several common reasons:

  • Spam sending, the IP was used to send large volumes of unsolicited emails.
  • Malware or botnet activity, the machine was infected and controlled by attackers.
  • Open relay or proxy, a misconfigured mail server or proxy allowed spammers to abuse it.
  • Suspicious network behavior, such as too many connections in a short time, port scans, or brute-force attempts.
  • Bad history of the IP, the address previously belonged to someone who abused it before it was reassigned to you.
